Wooden paw

Hollow stump
Once gentle giant bearing fruit,
Sweet apples of fall
No longer.
Wood smoke fills the air,
Hollowed hole from scurrying beings,
Hounds give chase to the homeless chippie,
Side view paw print remains,
Marking the demise
Of wooden beauty.
Wooden petals soon to fall
Rotting away under rain and skies,
As cool moves in the smoke will fill
The horizon with scents of fruit and fare,
But I shall miss the gathering shade,
On summer days,
An empty place remains
Where once stood my little giant
Bearing gifts.
