Eyes of life

Who wears the mask
Charlatan or jester
Princess or devil
Lurking behind
The steel grey eyes
Watching the world
Hidden by lies.
Who wears the mask
Of hero or foe
Of bird or beast
With emerald eyes watching
The downcast eyes
Empathy lies
At the hearts edge within
Spilling over
Like rain on porcelain.
Who wears the mask
Of madman or saint
Of woman or man
Behind eyes of Hazel
Watching the world move along
Mardi gras parade
Noise drowns the sound
Of a child’s cries
Of a wounded soul
Eyes now blind no longer see
Hands like roots reaching out
With a simple touch.

  1. I pondered it but wouldn’t know where to begin, but it sounds intriguing and I thank you for that wonderful compliment. Hubs thinks I should try short stories…my mom makes up stories for the grand kids….maybe someday πŸ™‚
