Evening glitter

Shadows passing overhead
Summer haze of sultry nights
Bodies spent from busy pace
Sitting on the truck tailgate.
The hounds sit around on concrete floors
As we watch the evening glitter move
Swooping in and moving out
The dragonflies that gather here
Ornaments suspended in the air.
The blessing of days spent side by side
Whiling away the hours of an ending day
As darkness slips in welcomed
A hundred dragonflies ride the wind.
To see the tiny insects in the air
Realizing that their dinner lies somewhere up there
And they gather en masse then quietly dissipate
As if they had never really been there
Unless you had looked up in wonder to gaze
And marvel in their escapades.
