We will meet in that place
Where so many days and years have slipped by,
Good days and bad
The everyday rhythm of another day
Just like the rest,
But this will be different,
There will be cake
And faces I’ve known through sickness and health
And so many years,
Seventeen to be exact
That has seen me go from young woman to
Strong dreaming warrior of the sun,
Who pursues the passion of her heart,
And the colors will live in memories
Long after we say goodbye
And I will sit in my spot,
Where I’ve sat everyday and today for the last
And we will laugh and smile and tears will find their way
Knowing time will now pass
And the seat will remain empty
Or be refilled with a new face
Who someday too will have a cake
And friends
And years spent here in this place
And as the door closes in just a few meager hours
I sit here in my chair
At my desk and realize that it will end
In three hours goodbyes and hugs will herald the end
And the beginning of a new journey,
On the path to tomorrow with a grateful heart,
And I will remember this moment
And a cake given by a place
That will no longer be my morning and daily home,
That will be in a yesterday
Waiting as I run towards a sun that calls.
Thoughts on my last day at work after seventeen years, one month and one day…but who’s counting? Goodbye, and hello future.
Thank you old poet, life is filled with so many blessings and I know there are always more on the way. Open heart happiness and changes in life bring new and greater things. Looking forward to all of it.
Sending peace and love and never forget, life’s too short not to have cake and celebrate, if even just because.

All set now Mr Grammar nazi, all better now 🙂 it was a lovely day and I’d like to say I miss it but I really have been so busy with the move and getting the house in order, well, I think about the cake….watching what I eat and all, gotta get the beach body going on now. Thanks G man, glad you enjoyed it and that you’re enjoying your new job too 🙂 or current one….grammar police, right?

Having scrolled down about two miles (I exaggerate somewhat) I can just say that I find it difficult to do poems specifically for an occasion. I think you’ve almost nailed it with yours. It is my thought that these pieces are more of a diary entry from our lives.
I can’t critique too much as this is very personal and of the moment; but, I think that there should possibly be a ‘be’ between ‘or’ and ‘refilled’ – there you go. That is the limit of my critique. 17 years and a few odd weeks is a long time to be in post in a job – I think that long-term jobs will be less of a thing in the coming decades. I stuck in my job for 35 years – having left I start all over again. 1 year on I am working hard and enjoying it – whereas I was hating most of the old job. I may be a bit late commenting upon this post and I apologise for laxity, but, good luck in future endeavours. G:)

Thanks Tre, I had your letter in the car with me in my desk, I was overjoyed to get it, the day before we left and it brought tears to my eyes, the people we encounter in this world take up that special place in our hearts and just spread so much warmth and love, moments that brought them to you may never be known, just that it was their time to add their shine into your soul. I’m glad you’re in my life shining so brightly. Peace and love and lots of shining moments my friend, Kim

Thanks Neha, I appreciate it and soon shall return to blogging. It’s been a long trip down and now unpacking daily….lots of things we need to figure where to put. Weathers nice, it’s just taking some getting used to realizing that we aren’t on vacation this time, that we actually live here now. Such fun days and smiling brightly. Peace and love, Kim

I shall soon, I miss my WP home of amazing friends. Hope you’re well, got lots of reading to catch up on but without Internet, takes about five minutes for each blog for the like button to show up….gets very frustrating to say the least. Soon I shall return like the sun in Canada…I shall try to send some warmth your way too😊☀️

The future is here and it rocks…or it will fully once I’m unpacked completely. Still working on that but in the meantime, getting in daily long walks with the dogs and hubby and enjoying the weather a bit too much. Hopefully getting internet this week, then back to fast time blogging and reading. Miss you all and tHank you, long distance neighbors now😊☀️🌴🐟🐠

Haha, semi retired for now, too young to go all the way but hubby retired and we are still unpacking boxes and totes. Starting to feel more like home each day. It is amazing to be where the sun shines daily and the weather in spring calls for shorts and tees. Love it, love it, love it. Will be back to blogging soon too, miss it. Peace and easy days, Kim

Thank you so very much, cake is wonderful but down here we are moving to the healthy routine which is suiting us, perhaps a cup of gelato if I’m good. Still unpacking and getting house in order but the sunshine suits me perfectly and the hustle and bustle will move into an easy daily flow soon and blogging will resume shortly. I’ve missed everyone, peace and love and smiles, Kim

Ah Kat, the sunshine and the humid cool morning air have lifted me beyond words, happy and going for walks, spreading joy like the lovely song birds that sing to me this fine morning. Going to the beach today for the first time, looking forward to it. Weather has been spectacular. Will be back to blogging soon, still unpacking and catching up on my reading very slowly with no internet. Miss the WP but will resume the normalcy soon😊 peace and love to you Kat, and tinkling wind chimes too😊Kim

I’ve been there
My last job was somewhere about ten years
When I left
They just about kicked me out
Though the future couldn’t be brighter
The place doesn’t exist anymore
Great one Kim
Have a great weekend
