Black ceiling hangs low
red orange yellow licking tongues
snapping dragons lashing out
lit within moving outward
consuming appetite merely whetted
parched dried lands fuel the beast.
Air filled with the rage of sound
crackling popping snapping creature
man no match for the fury.
We’ve had a spate of brush fires here lately, one less than a mile away although we were safe in our neighborhood, many days you see the smoke hanging like a haze on the air, pushed by the ocean breezes and last night I woke to the slight scent on the air. Dreaming of fire inspiration for this piece. Photo found on the internet.
thanks E, they have a burn ban now going on in certain counties, 6 inches under for rainfall for the year, but once the season starts, unfortunately so do the lightning storms which fire them up too….a vicious cycle. Sigh, peace and love and hey L ❤

thanks Christy, they finally got it out, no injuries, just charred woods now though. Peace and thanks, K

This brings back memories of sitting in my front yard in Altadena, Ca, just below the bone-dry foothills, watching flames in the hills and small planes dropping chemicals and water into the inferno. Especially dramatic after dark. Beautiful and deadly. Somehow wildfires seem very un-Floridian! The poem is wonderful. 🔥☀️🔥☀️🔥

it was far enough away, but sometimes you can still smell it on the wind 🙂

Ugh! I hope you’re doing well. (I’m sure you know) Smoke inhalation is the worst.

It hasn’t gone near any houses thank heavens, watched the helicopter cruise over the house for an hour with its water bucket going back and forth with refills….they got it out, burned a couple acres but no injury or home loss🙏🏻😊 happy Tuesday my friend, this was my first attempt at a quadrille which you inspired by the way😊💙

We avoid the areas, a bit too hot and smoky for my tastes….but a lot of fires lately….more out in the forest areas😞

I had been reading Tre playing catchup and saw her quadrille? Or something like that and I most likely spelled that wrong, so gave it a go for fun. the fire was far enough away not to cause concern, but you can smell it on the air some days. They do a lot of controlled burns down here in the forests which is strange to drive through. You hope it doesn’t go into a rage and lock you in on the roads. Thanks Magarisa, glad you enjoyed😊

I’m sure it wasn’t that intense, but we watched the helicopter with its sack for water running back and forth over us for about an hour, very cool🚁🚒 and with this drought, once the rainy season starts, we get more with the Lightning strikes…..glad you enjoyed 😊
