Season slips

She slips in slowly unannounced

passing through the veil from yesterday to today

through a haze of summer heat stretching

into the distance like a breath held

then released into nothingness.

June sheds her garments as jealous July breaks free

born of all before she stands

beneath the sun that waits for her moment so close

for a momentary eclipse when the new month steals the thunder,

we wait for days that will not come again

in our lifetimes we watch the shedding of seasons,

colors entwined with the time they have,

jasmine ends her cycle and reaches out her tentacles

trying to hold on,

to anchor and remain for just a bit longer

and our thoughts grow tired much quicker

as the heat of a noon day gather particles

and the skies swell pregnant with the daily darkness

clouds hanging, waiting for their moment of release

to let the torrent flow

as the thunder in the distance heralds the arrival,

we fan our damp faces and breathe the thickness in

eager for any change

the day can afford to spare.

  1. Thank you Tre, I can’t believe lately how fast time moves….leaves me dumbfounded at times, truly. But making the best of them all, even though down here not much changes…lots of sun, humidity, warmth, and AC, yay!

  2. Beautiful summer imagery. To me, this lovely piece is very remniscent of the song “Summer Breeze.”
Albeit….expressed in a magnificent Kim kind of way 🙂

  3. Kim, this is beautiful. July came out of nowhere. I love what you’ve done here:
