A quiet peace

We linger in our thoughts
deepest pools of memories
we skim the surface under darkened skies
trying to stay above the fray.
The voices in letters come
lifelines outstretched for balance
wiping the blackboard of the wrong answers
we smile when we see the blank slate waiting
chalk in hand we make our marks
telling our stories
finding the quiet of peace.
Full moon comes to call
times of turmoil blown on October wind
and the coolness settles in the break of day
the autumn of our lessons
we learn to forgive
to let go the yesterdays that haunt
dressed and ready for the party
this costumed life calls
and we answer doors to our hearts
super heroes and fairy goddesses
we dress the part
of our desires.
