Gazing in anticipation,
eyes move to the prize that sits higher
and watching with patience
knowing with the time that passes
all will be as it should.
Yesterday remembered
with the smile of love
we span the time and travel
back to certain places
and recall the scent of days
beneath a languid sun,
perfect days of laughter
and the hope for more to come.
Grey hair graces a face
perhaps not wanting to see
the future of each of us
like battle scars giving proof
of a life well lived,
so we wait patiently
for the best,
the tastiest bite of these days
and linger just a bit longer
in a yesterday gone,
but seeing in the rays of afternoon light
another moment waiting
to be lived
to be loved.

A celebration of our “gracefully aging” girl Apple as this week will be her fifth year with us, 9 years young, we wonder where the time has gone and this picture from a few years back, still captures her food driven image patiently waiting for the tray to fall into her ever  waiting pie-hole. No, we didnt share…..too spicy for her, she got a bone instead….Life is so tough indeed.

Falling down

Like the slick silver sliding
falling down to bring you up,
drizzle on the muzzle
shake it off
shake it off
and slipping and drifting
down the road of happy misery,
a little rain never hurt no one
but the witch in stories of olde.
I’m not melting but my eyes are crying
yet not from feelings
but the cleansing of the skies falling down,
t-shirt wet and pockets soaked
they look with tired eyes
not quite enjoying the foray
down the path of everyday
but the new sense and grey mornings
soaked through like chrome at the car wash,
we muddle along
in a puddle they piddle
and we laugh in the end
’cause ain’t much you can do
when the showers of life
rain down upon you
and the four amigos shake
shake shake it off
towels hung to dry
and another walk later
when skies are clear,
do we have to my dear?

Went for our morning walk only to be far enough down the street that when the skies opened up, we became soaked to the skin, the dogs looked at us like “let’s get home” so we turned around but not much could be done. Cold front is at the door, mid fifties tomorrow, good thing we weren’t walking in that cold, we might have turned to people and pup popsicles. Brrrrr… though in hindsight…..

Empty Nest, Full Life

When I get very old, if I’m lucky enough to reach that milestone, I will give up my struggles to be perfect. I will eat brownies for breakfast and have ice cream for dinner, if that’s what I really want.

I’ll stop trying to be thinner or stronger or smarter or more accomplished.

When I get very old, I’ll lounge around all day in my pajamas and read trashy novels while eating a bag of chips.

You might wonder what has inspired me to accept the blessings of very old age.

Well, it was the Wolf King that did it.

I’ll let him explain in his own words.

IMG_20170810_103058 Only a week ago, I still needed my leash.

As soon as I woke up today, I knew that something unusual was going on. Man Who Walks Me was climbing up and down the stairs, bringing chairs and tables out into the…
