Space between

We lingered just a bit too long
in the space between the dreams,
searching for the meaning
of images seen,
the man who was there then wasn’t
with black pants and white billowing shirt
watching as I tried in vain to explain
where something was,
and how to get to somewhere down the road
but he said nothing,
just gazing at me with a blank stare
and then disappeared in to thin air,
I remember saying to myself at that moment
it was then that I knew I was crazy,
perhaps a line to be used
when white sheets lay before me beckoning
and the pen lifted like a sword
to smash the lingering feelings away,
there is no insanity in those spaces
where water flows and skies lay in repose,
waiting patiently for a solitary view
to calm and soothe
the disrupted mind from its chatter.
The energy was emanating
from every crevice
and the night lay heavy
as my heart skipped its beat,
salvation will not be had in the dreams
for the reality is truly known,
and nightmares once reserved for fever
now slip in unwanted,
and the mind plays tug of war with thoughts.
I see myself floating serenely
as wave upon wave carries me towards the destination
and the light comes haltingly when needed
to the burdened psyche,
but words found in the spaces between heal
and that for now
is just enough to see me through.

A single drop

My world lies so deep

Caught within the moment

Of a trickle of movement

And slipping into

A single drop.

Life force flows endlessly

Flowing on a current of time and change

How at each turn we rearrange

Feeling the life within soothed

By each drop that falls upon

Weary shoulders and thoughts

Relaxed into a state of being.

I carry dreams in my canvas bag

Brought together like a special collection

Smooth stones worn by time,

Gathered here and there on the river side,

And I move like a fallen leaf

Floating above on gentle ripples

Into the swift bubbling wave

I fall away from view

Yet remembered for the image

I once gave.

I hold in my hands these drops of life

Drinking with thirst each minute of existence

And even though sated,

greedily reach for more.

For the desert will beckon as I grow old

And this moisture loved and embraced

This single drop cherished

Carrying within infinity,

The blue of earth and sky

Spilling into itself

And recreated in abundance

Will sustain these dreams for eternity,

Within the single drop

I shall fall into parched soil,

To give life

Where needed.

Water like tears and oceans deep
Fire that burns like love so sweet,
A place we can sit and dream today,
Another dimension so far away.
The stars above that light the sky
It is not our place to wonder why,
But to be the piece of earth sublime
In this moment we have the answer of time.
The minutes to think of better days
The memories to last like the bright sun rays,
The mind to give the gift of peace,
Our lives and fears can be released.
Come sit awhile and hold my hand
The magic is alive in this fertile land,
The elements ours to all take part
With a giving soul and an honest heart.
