The simple art of life

We start out so simply it seems,

One grain, then another added

Almost like ingredients to create

Our dream life.

A cup packed tight with well wishes

With a host of thoughts blended in,

Memories in cups and spoons measure perhaps,

Or joyfully tossed into the mix,

Building up each day

Each year that at times can feel so very long

And we look back through the rearview mirror

And wonder where it all went.

But we keep building higher,

Smoothing the edges

Peering through windows at beautiful sights,

Embracing the light at the end of day

That flickers and finds us contemplating peace

Near water’s edge where the moon glistens

And the skies bend near to hear our prayers.

Each step leading us higher

To the soul we become

To the richness of life that finds us

At life’s end,

A magnificent masterpiece,

Slipping into a far off place,

Taken and swept out by the tides

Into the everything and nothing

That we are.

Moon magic

She whispers her magic lullaby
Hanging suspended
A dangling plaything for thoughts
Inspiring heights
To fly alongside
Her brilliance.
Sands move with tides
A landscaper of perfection
Grasses rise to wave
Welcome back my friend
It’s been too long since I’ve seen
The balance of your rhythm
That gifts to me simple peace.
The mind falls into pace
With the rise and fall
Of night skies breath
Giving majestic splendor
For my eyes an image
Of flying to heights
Pieces of cosmic dust cover
These wings of fancy
Like Phoenix rising from ashes
A thought born of the universe
A path beheld of life.

Light within

She sings her song
Dressed in jewels falling
Like mermaid tears
Glittering on sand.
She builds her castles
The higher ground shifting
Still washes out to sea
Lights flicker within
Then upon crashing waves die.
She swims to far horizons
Searching for the past she left
Needing to cast away
The pain it brings
Like sad treasures on the sand
Rolling below
She sits alone
The rocks under moonlit skies
And watches the shapes move about
She is invisible to their eyes
As they search for their own trinkets
Oblivious to her existence
She slips silently back
As the waves move through
Erasing any sign
That she had been
For but a moment
Among them.
