Growing wild

Cloistered in spaces unseen

gifts in crevices found

the colors of life grow wild in my life.

Rising in strength to become

a hanging cluster of goodness

lingering in shadows

but still hanging on.

I’ve waited for these things,

the beauty of life beneath

an awkward sun burns

to touch pavement beneath tired feet.

Coming days, months, years

awaken in their splendor

to find me waiting with open hands.

Tiny beings like dreams

wait to be plucked from the fertile mind,

and I return to find

the places I’d forgotten

still stand in glory,

the figment of want fulfilled.

This image, if it sticks, is a banana tree in my yard. It has been growing for years, yet never produced. Imagine my surprise to see the wisps of purple flower petals upon the ground…and in the tree, the gift of fruit, finally. I now have four bunches on four different trees. I love bananas, but this bounty is too much. My neighbors will be well fed.

Gypsy dance

The skies moved with the light
interspersed with indigo haze
as if a gypsy dancer lingered
beside a fire lit from within,
moving back and forth
calling out in thunder
it’s voice profound and loud,
vibration activated the beat
of a heart sitting by like a wallflower,
join in the dance it seemed to echo
and as we stood in awe and wonder
watching the play
between dark and light,
consumed in its breath of passion,
we lit the moment up
and joined the fray
no longer afraid
to stand and become one
with the coming storm.

The eve of the cat

Moon hangs bright above,
swollen orb watching like a giant eye,
shadows guiding the branches like skeletal fingers
grasping as we find our way
in the darkness we hear her purr.
She moves in between the dark and light
memories of childhood
gleeful fright,
soft and seductive her voice calls forth
sharp nails catch on silky drapes
shredding the strings
she happily plays.
The moods shifting in and out
bringing a smile, perhaps a pout
and costumes betray no curve or ounce
we crawled on all fours being
as stealthy as she,
as the masked crusaders tried
to capture their prey
she toyed so artfully
yet often foiled,
till next time kids
we’d sigh and dream
of heroes and villains
and knowing that it wasn’t real,
took pleasure in playing all of the parts,
when innocence was the easiest art
and we could be everyone
wearing our masks,
till night came to call
Happy Halloween to all
and live and laugh
be all of that and more,
but I will wear my tail
and whiskers too perhaps
after of course,
my cat nap.

Image of my favorite cat lady of all time….meow….purr…..
