Life sweetness

We come to a season of changes,

tucking ourselves away in our fortress cocoon,

tiny spaces where we linger with our thoughts

as the air cools to the remembered touch

the honey still runs in the warmth

like the river of gold goodness.

The morning skies reveal the blessings

amber slips through the sheets of clouds

as we awake and peer beyond the view

of our moment of now we wonder

what pleasures the day will bring.

Sweetest life in these days of less light

waiting for leaves to fall that cling so tight

and the pumpkin beneath the palm

still doesn’t quite seem right

but it is here

and it is what will be

as the days move closer to visits and birds

flying down to seek the warmth

from their frigid ice houses

and we welcome with azure blue pools

warmth and love to soak the soul

and we will bake in the hearth

those breads and pies that comfort so well,

and we will be grateful

as we are today

for every little thing

and each change that comes

from season to season

there’s always a reason

to find peace.

Beyond the door the thunder booms

and the sun out front betrays the winds

change taking place minute to minute

and I sit here to share just a moment of life,

to bring you in to find a place to be

sit here with me

and we’ll talk awhile

or just sit in silence

watching the Autumn clouds roll by.

Minutiae of evening

Aromas rise

Crackling seeds pop off pans

Jack-O-lantern jumping beans

Scent of chili and garlic butter,

Mmmm, almost there.

Found the time to empty

Pretty orange shells

As chilled wind nips cheeks,

Feast or famine

I choose snacks.

Background noise to break the silence,

Long lost movie runs on fifty inches

As Saint Elmo’s fire burns,

Faces so young and familiar

Imaginary heroes of youth,

Don’t miss the drama

Of The yesterday now gone,

Just seeing images of big hair

Eighties music and the gangs all there.

The winds will come

As the sun rises and I dread the cold,

But if the power slips into nothing

And I’m here hanging with my tribe,

The seeds will suffice to fill the void

Of a hot cooked meal denied,

One more reality

That fall is slipping away

With the empty skins in fields for deer

And frost will find me waiting

The simple days not gone

With pumpkin seeds warm from baking,

Hanging out with my old friends,

Demi and Emilio and Rob.

Don’t worry, three big pumpkins worth of seeds, don’t worry, I’ll save you some….maybe…..okay, one or two at least…..addictive little things.

Friends of fall-A collaboration

With the joy of the season of Fall currently in full swing, my friend B and I came to the conclusion that it would be a great time to jump together into the leaf piles of fall pages and collaborate on another poem.

Both B and I have a fondness for the furry creatures and spend time chatting about fun stories on the way the little scampering creatures torture us…not on purpose mind you, they just move a bit too fast for our tastes but oh, what a pleasure they are to watch. Stop on over to B’s blog  gettingthroughanxiety.wordpress.com and say Hi.

We hope you enjoy our foray into the wild side of Fall. Don’t forget to leave out some nuts and seeds too…the snow is already making an appearance as you can see. Thank you B for joining forces with me for our nature “walk” and now let’s go jump in some more leaves before the snow covers them all, shall we?

Sitting on the side steps

Taking in the fresh air

I feel a sense of pleasantness

That sometimes seems quite rare.

All of a sudden I see

A flash of brown coming my way

But you rush off in a panic

Before I can ask you to stay.

These sights of Autumn fill me

With peace and joy abound

As time moves on I see

The colors around me falling down.

The creatures move much closer

Gathering their sustenance to live

Yet I am truly blessed

As their presence a gift they give.

As the robins leave

The blue jays decide to stay

While cardinals make their plans to wait

For the summer sky to turn grey.

As I hear them chirp

I offer breadcrumbs and seeds

Hoping I can give them the love

That every creature needs.

The hounds run to the trees

With the chipmunks and squirrels on high

Giving chase on cool fall days

Wishing they could perhaps fly.

The sights and sounds of autumn

As frosty grass crunches beneath

The pumpkins empty of seed

Orange rind for deer I bequeath.

Though the weather is cool

Forming Goosebumps on my arm

All of the creatures assure me

That there’s no reason for alarm.

They convince me to stay nearby

Asking to please join them as they play

Promising that visiting will provide me

A warm and happy day.
