Minutiae of evening

Aromas rise

Crackling seeds pop off pans

Jack-O-lantern jumping beans

Scent of chili and garlic butter,

Mmmm, almost there.

Found the time to empty

Pretty orange shells

As chilled wind nips cheeks,

Feast or famine

I choose snacks.

Background noise to break the silence,

Long lost movie runs on fifty inches

As Saint Elmo’s fire burns,

Faces so young and familiar

Imaginary heroes of youth,

Don’t miss the drama

Of The yesterday now gone,

Just seeing images of big hair

Eighties music and the gangs all there.

The winds will come

As the sun rises and I dread the cold,

But if the power slips into nothing

And I’m here hanging with my tribe,

The seeds will suffice to fill the void

Of a hot cooked meal denied,

One more reality

That fall is slipping away

With the empty skins in fields for deer

And frost will find me waiting

The simple days not gone

With pumpkin seeds warm from baking,

Hanging out with my old friends,

Demi and Emilio and Rob.

Don’t worry, three big pumpkins worth of seeds, don’t worry, I’ll save you some….maybe…..okay, one or two at least…..addictive little things.

  1. A sweet night as bread perfumes linger in the night…
When daughter #1 was little, around 2 or so, I would carry her on my hip around 4 or 5 to the Boulangerie to fetch the night’s bread. She would close her eyes and say: “Hmmmmmm” ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. No tea or coffee, but chocolate is always good. I just finished baking a banana bread, but I also put dark chocolate chips, walnuts and bits of caramel into it…should be interesting…smells good, so I will probably dream of that tonight as the whole house smells yummy.๐Ÿ˜Š creative cooking with Kim tonight ๐Ÿ˜Š

  3. That’s why champagne can only be champagne if from the country, right? Makes sense and I had wine Friday, water tonight but you’re making my mouth water just thinking of a fine wine, sitting in a countryside perhaps….ah, I can close my eyes and travel….much faster than a plane ride, hm? ๐Ÿท๐Ÿท๐Ÿพ

  4. The healthiest food, 4 or 5 kinds of cheese and a few wine… how do you say that? Names? We don’t classify, wine by the grape, merlot, cabernet-sauvignon, etc. but by the place where it’s grown, sometimes a small village, or a place like Brouilly is a small hill of the Beaujolais region, in the southeast of france, close to lyon. (I went to college in Lyon) ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. No hubby markings, I washed it before he left…and I will wash it for his return as going from 85 to 50 or less, he’s going to need it more than Iโ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿ˜Š if you go back, be sure to eat some Brie and a fresh croissant for me if you would..mmmmmm๐Ÿ˜Š

  6. Just now wearing my lumberjack shirt. We’re planning to have lunch on the terrace. Sunny but a wee bit chilly. My last time in Paris was July-August. I increasingly stretch my stay. six-eight weeks sometimes. Since Friday I’ve been thinking of taking the plane. Not that I can do anything. (Join Military Intelligence?) but just be there. With my people. And that includes everybody.
Stay warm. The fleece also probably has a hint of Hubby’s… cologne, scent, flavour…

  7. I think the checkered ones are like lumberjack wool thick coats and hats, we have the hat with the ear flaps. Fleece is a bit lighter. When was the last time you were in Paris? If you go, be safe and send pics, I’ve never been there so have to live vicariously through you lens. Yes Florida in December will still be warm…but today was quite nice, sun shining, I was pretending…except for the smell of wood fire on the air instead of cypress and flowers ๐Ÿ™‚
be well my friend and have a great day too.

  8. That’s organization. A fleece jacket is like a canadian checkered red jacket/shirt? My father had one, and I keep the tradition. Come to think of it, a fleece jacket is different. After all Christmas is not so far away… (Wow emoticon). and the Florida house will be all ready.
I was actually thinking i might go to Paris now. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ Wild thoughts…
    Take care Kim
