For want of rain

Empty benches sit on a lonely beach. A man in a yoga pose reaches for the sky as if praising the moment as the clouds slowly roll in. A circle of white stones in the sand lies close to his feet and I wonder if he is the one who created the round form, like a bull’s eye, strike here it seems to say, forlorn and empty and waiting for the rain.

It has been weeks since a drop has fallen and I go there on a whim to be a part of it, this approaching storm and the water lies calm this morning, not yet nine and only a few other souls stand watch with umbrellas in hand, waiting too. The birds fly overhead as birds will do on ocean winds and I try to capture them but when I see the after effect, they seem like words falling aimlessly off of the page.

For want of rain we venture here, as the skies darken and I feel my mood suddenly lighten as the skies grow thick like molasses and there is a light cool breeze that cuts through the humidity. The traffic these days has become easier as the snow birds have flown back up North once more. I fly no more. I am grounded here in my ocean breeze and this is home now, and instead, leaving only my thoughts to soar on the wind like a gull so high above and I can close my eyes and just imagine what it is that they see as they look down at these empty benches where a short time before on sunny days, there was no place to land, and I stand here on this sandy dock with my camera capturing things that strike me as necessary. This is my life, here where fair breezes blow and birds fly into skies till no longer seen and castles wait to be built in this home by the sea. Welcome friends to my world.

  1. Been using peroxide, sensitive tooth paste, listening, orajel, and now three antibiotics a day for ten days…and warm salt water…..I just detest taking so many meds now…..dentist Tuesday thank heavens. Thanks Sheldon, I have the tea tree oil, but no clove oil….didn’t know you could have that in your mouth?

  2. I’m not sure what dry lightning is…I would assume in this humidity down here ours is more wet? But loud, being on the gulf it sounds like it’s right outside the window sometimes….scary cool though, as long as everyone and everything is safe 🙂

  3. I can’t get in until Tuesday, being new down here, i don’t have an established dentist yet but my Dr called in an antibiotic in the meantime so that it doesn’t escalate out of control. Just woke from my nap and it is at a dull roar right now 🙂 Good afternoon 🙂 K

  5. No, thank you Toni, first for the reblog and then the joy I found this morning on my reads and looks at the life you lead. You look so happy and I can feel the joy of life exude from you. Life is a blessing indeed and the rain also, It has been almost two months it seems. I hear I can expect a lot more in the future but only having lived here two months now, each month brings new joys with the blooms and the changes in the town with the flight of the snowbirds 🙂 it is lovely, truly. Thank you,, peace and love, Kim

  6. Hi Kim. I can relate to your joy awaiting the rain and reveling in the claps of thunder and flashes of lightning. Living in north Texas, we’ve had several summers in scary drought conditions, but this spring has been the opposite, with too much rain for some. I’ve been blessed here in McKinney with just enough, intermittent and welcomed before the heat of summer. I again have to say that I am thrilled to have stumbled upon your site and look forward to sharing your world through your beautiful words and photos. Enjoy your rain.

  7. Hi Kasia, you know I’d love that…only two hours away? Are you North of Venice or South…or perhaps East….if you were West, you’d be on the ocean 🙂 hope the move went well and that you’re all grounded. That is always a great thing. Shoot me an email if you get time, we will find a time to hook up

  8. I’m enjoyingm day inside as the steady rain falls. Just completed my move back into my studio space after painting and carpet installation. Am feeling grounded and replanted into these surroundings as I face this new lifestyle. It occurs to me that you are now about two hours south of me. Perhaps we could meet on a beach one day. 😇
